  • Naming Issue with Tax Return

    Hi,

My name on my Indian passport is:
    First Name: A
    Middle Name:
    Last Name: B C

My name on my SSN is (Because SSN has a character limitation with the last name, so my name was split):
    First Name: A
    Middle Name: B
    Last Name: C

Now I filed my taxes using my Indian name. Since I was doing it for the first time I was unaware that it had to match with the SSN. The entire name string however is the same across all "A B C", just the order is different in the SSN and Indian Passport. Will my tax return be rejected?

If you're facing a naming issue with your tax return, it's essential to address it promptly to avoid processing delays or potential rejections. Common naming issues include discrepancies between the name on your tax return and the name on file with the tax authority or Social Security Administration, which could arise due to marriage, divorce, or other legal name changes.

A naming issue with a tax return can arise when the name on the tax return does not exactly match the name registered with the tax authority or other official records, such as Social Security or identification documents. This mismatch can occur due to typographical errors, name changes vehiclecaraccident (e.g., after marriage or divorce), or differences in formatting. Such discrepancies may lead to delays in processing the return, rejection of the filing, or even issues with receiving refunds.
