  • Damaged E2 Visa

    Hello all,

I hope you can give some advice regarding this issue:

I am an E2 visa holder and I am currently in the United States working for a company that helped me get this visa (we went through the application process with the company's lawyer together). I have been working here for 8 months.
My passport and also my Visa were seriously damaged recently. A machine wont be able to read the code at the bottom of the Visa. My passport and ID page was damaged as well but less, I will still have to replace it because the picture is a bit detached.
But regarding the Visa specifically, I was wondering if anyone had been in such a situation before and what he/she had to do to get a new visa. Do I need to reapply for the same Visa? Is the process the same or a bit simpler? I plan to contact the US embassy that delivered me my current Visa.

I do not plan to go abroad before 5 months but as my Visa cannot be read I think, if I leave and then try to reenter the US, I will be in trouble at the customs I guess if I show my current damaged visa.

Just to precise, my Visa was still valid until 2013 and it was delivered to me by a US embassy abroad.

Thanks for any advice you could provide

    Armstrong.
