e2 visa question-petition

I set up a company in US and invested/got e2 visa. I'm trying to set up another company and was told that I cannot work for this new company, because I can work only for the first company that I originally set up. Is this true?

I believe it is, you can only work for the company which originally sponsored and hired you. Maybe you should only open a branch or sub-division of the same company and then you could work for it?
