Currently on L1B...

Hi,

I am currently working in India since last seven years for an US MNC and in the managerial role since last two years. I am holding L1B (stamped in Feb 2010) which is going to expire in Jan 2013. So far i have worked in US for three months in the last three years on my L1B.

I would like to know if my L1B can be converted to L1A while applying for renewal since i am currently in managerial role (managing a team of 10 members).

Please help me understand the L1 visa renewal process and how many days it would take.

What kind of Management are you doing? Some of the basic requirements for L1A are listed here:

Once can do a L1B to L1A COS while in US , outside US you will have to apply for a new L1A petition. No one can predict how many days/months it will take Your company can apply in premium and get a response in 15 days, not necessarily an approval. There may be additional RFEs/Admin Processing , It all depends upon the initial documentation that you submit.

Just a word of caution, amongst H1B, L1B, L1 Individual and L1A visas, L1A are currently the most difficult to get Non immigrant work visa and requiring maximum documentation.

I am currently managing a team that supports our enterprise applications. I would be approving their leaves, expenses and reviewing their appraisals, policies, day to day operations etc.

Since you mentioned, "one can do a L1B to L1A COS while in US , outside US you will have to apply for a new L1A petition".....i think i shouldn't think of L1A now, since our company won't file a new petition just for the sake of L1A since i am already having L1B.
