  • L-1 Visa But No Job (Stuck in Admin Processing for 5 Months)

My company filed a L-1 blanket petition visa (L-1A) for me, and when I went for visa interview it was put under administrative processing. After 5 months, I finally received clearance and got my 5 year L-1 visa stamped. But the job is no longer available. What options do I have?

    Is L-1 visa job specific?

Can I search for a different job within the same company?

Can I search for a job at a different company?

How long do I have to search for job and travel to US on L-1 visa?

What if I’m unable to get a job? Should I inform the embassy? How will this affect me in the future when I try to apply for new job, new visa to go to US?

    Thank you

What do you mean the job is not available? Are you no longer working for the company which filed your L1? L1 visa is company specific. You can certainly try to search for an opportunity to travel to US within existing company if company policy allows. Its got nothing to do with Immigration rules.

If you switch employers you cant use the exisitng L1 to travel for the new employer.

If you dont have opportunity to travel to US within current company then you cant use the L1. In that case you dont have to inform the embasssy and it will not affect your future visa applications.

This is my opinion not legal advice.
