L1 to H4 conversion

Hi,

My husband's L1 visa has expired but his I-94 is valid until 2015. I am on H1 and due to personal reasons, he is planning to apply for H4 within the USA. so my question is, once we file for conversion from L1 to H4 for him, what will be the date starting which my husband will not be able to work. Will it be the date when USCIS receives the application or the date when petition is approved or is it possible for him to work (on L1) even after his H4 petition is approved?

From the date requested in the COS form. He obviously cannot work past that date and certainly not on H4.
This is my opinion not legal advice.

He cannot continue working after change of status gets approved. He can stop working at any time after application receipt date.
