travel with a visitor visa while waiting for the L2 appointment

My wife applied for an L2 visa and the appointment is on May 31th.
However, she was planning to come visit me for few days at the end of April/ beginning of May. She has a tourist visa valid till 2015.

Do you think she's might have problems passing the customs since she is applying for the L2 visa?
Is it at the border agent's discretion to let her pass or no?

Whether or not to admit your wife will always be at the CBPs discretion. However, since an L-2 is a dual intent non-immigrant visa, this fact alone will not be a reason to bar her entry to the U.S.
