Have L1B till 2015 - How to get h1B ?

Hi,
I have a valid L1B visa valid till 2015 , however my assignment ended last year and now am working in India. I want to go and work in US , however , my current employer is not sending me to US because of lack of overseas assignments. Under such circumstances , Can I get a visa transfer from L1B to H1B while in India ? Also, if I leave my current company , would my L1B become invalid or how can I utilize my L1B visa in order to work in US ? Pls suggest me . Any guidance is appreciated.

You will need to find a job and the employer will file H1 petition for you. The current year's cap is closed and new petition can only be filed in April 2014 for a start date of Oct 2014.
