When to apply for EAD renewal and I-94 extension - L2

My EAD is expiring in Jan 2014 and my L 2 I-94 is expiring in June 2014. there is only a gap of 6 months .

My husband who is on L1 his I-94 is valid till Jan 2016.

My question is:

a) Can i apply for EAD renewal for 6 months. as I-94 extension cannot be applied before 6 months of expiry as per my knowledge, so that i dont have a time off from my work.

b) or Can i apply for EAD and I-94 simultaneously say in Oct 2013
