  • Police verification failed in India after coming to USA

    Hi,
I moved to US in Dec 2012 in L1 visa. Before I moved to US, I got a new passport in Oct 2012 for adding my spouse name and apparently the new passport needed a police verification to complete the process. Due to some administrative delays, the police verification happened only in April 2013 by the time which I had moved to US. In May 2013, I got a letter from passport office stating my police verification has failed and I should provide an explanation as to why my passport shouldnt be impounded. Tried checking with the passport office in India and they are saying I need to come back to India and take care of it but not providing me any more information as to how long will it take or whats the process.
Will be really helpful if someone can tell me
    1. Whats the process to fix this issue
    2. Is there anyway i can get this resolved while in US. I live in California
    3. Am planning to be in India during December this year. Would it be possible to get this resolved in a months time while in India.

    Thanks for the help
    Rajesh.

Talk to the Indian Consulate in San Francisco. They are usually not very helpful on the phone but if you go in person, you may get this solved. I am married to an Indian and I go there for my visas.

The Indian consulate also has the authority to issue you a new passport. So, I am assuming you can surrender this "unverified" passport and get one from them since you are a legal resident of California and the Indian mission is responsible for providing care to Indians. They issue passports to citizens who lose their passports all the time.
