H1b to L1

Hi...
My visa expires on june 2014.I came to USA in june 2011. This is my second extension. My company is initiating promotion for me. The problem is, if im getting promoted i will not be eligible for H1b extension next time. Can my employer process L1 for me? It seems that i should be employed for atleast a year outside US for L1visa.. So am i eligible for L1?
