  • Getting married in the US : L1-A visa holder from the UK & German citizen in Germany

    Hi guys,

I've done a fair bit of reading, so I think what I'm proposing is possible, but I'd like to get your advice on whether this is okay. I haven't seen another post like this in the forum either.

I'm a UK citizen and am currently working in the US on a L-1A visa.

My fiance is in Germany, and a German citizen. It's administratively difficult for us to get married in either the UK or Germany - I've been trying for the past 2 months. It's going to be much easier for us to marry in the US (Las Vegas).

    I have 2 questions :
    1) Given that the L-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa, is it okay for my fiance to come to the US on the ESTA and then for us to get married here? She will then return to Germany and apply for the L2 based on my L1.

    2) Is it okay to file the L2 visa application (DS-160) prior to getting married, but booking the interview date after the marriage?
    Example
    10/02/13 : File L2 visa application (DS-160)
10/03/13 : Fly to the US on an ESTA & get married
10/04/13 : Fly back to Germany
    10/05/13 : L2 Visa Interview in Germany

    Thank you!

Hi! I am sorry I don’t have an answer, but I was wondering if it would be possible to know what is your experience with this because I am currently in the same situation with my fiancée. All the best!
