Probably this experience might help some of us.
1. My Visa Stamp & Blanket petition (initial 3 years) was expired on Aug-18-2013.
2. An extension was applied with USCIS before visa expiry (as I was still in US), but got RFE and in turn rejected (on Aug-27-2013) after responding.
3. I traveled back to India on Sep-4-2013 and joined in the company (subsidiary in India) in about a week from denial date.
4. Applied for visa on a new blanket petition in 3 weeks. Appeared for interview at Chennai Embassy and got my visa approved for another 3 years (however I can work only for another 2 years as it is not a fresh L-1B).
5. And now I'm back in US exactly after 31 days.
