How to get new I94?

My current I94 date is valid until my old passport date (Jan'14). I have L1B visa and it's valid till 2014 December. Last week I got my new passport. I have checked with local CBP (customs and border protection) office and they said either i have to cross the border and come back to US or I have to submit form I539 to extend my Stay. I don't have plan to submit form I539.

My current location is near by Toronto ( 5 hrs drive). If go to Canada in tourist visa will they give new I94 till my visa date?

Yes, that will work. In fact they may even give an I-94 for 3 years if the petition is blanket. But even if that happens, make sure your actual stay in the US in L1B status is not longer than 5 years. Also, do this before your Visa expires.
