L1A and L2 Visa Extension

Me and my wife have expired L1 A and L2 visas. Our I-94 however expires in March 2016.

We are now applying for an extension. I understand that l1 extensions are being heavily scrutinized and have dismal chances of approval.

I have the following question:

If our extension gets denied then would we be asked to leave immediately after we receive the denial or would we be given some grace period to be able pack up and settle any pending relocation matters in US considering that we are applying for an extension well in advance to the expiry of our I-94 ?

Extensions are actually an extension of ones I-94 and can only be applied 6 Months before I-94 expiry. You cant apply for extension as you already have a valid I-94 till 2016.

My problem is that I might have to go back to India to attend a family function in a few months and since I have a expired Visa I wouldn't be able to re-enter US even though I have a valid I-94.. I thought getting an extension approved would mean that I can get a new visa as well .. if and when I travel back to India. What would be your
advise in this scenario.. ?

You will anyhow have to go for visa stamping. You can either do the paperwork while in US and book the via appointment while in US or go to India and do the paperwork and visa appointment. Advisable to do the paperwork and book the appointment while in US so all that you have to do is attend the interview when you are in India. Of course your return depends upon the outcome of the interview which could be positive or negative.
