URGENT !! H1B to L2 transfer and later come back to H1B visa

Hello Al,

I currently on 7th year of H1B visa with I140 approved and going through a lay-off at my current employer. I have another 2 weeks time to find a consulting/fulltime job to do H1B visa transfer as my current employer told me that they would inform USCIS to revoke H1B. As this is coming very soon. I wanted to know if I can convert to L2 visa as my wife works on L1A. But I also want to know if I can come back to H1B later as my wife's company may be doing lay-offs in 2014.

I think both are possible, H1 to L2 and subsequent L2 to H1 as I140 is approved.
