  • EAD filing for L2 spouse

    Hi,

I could not find a proper thread, so am posting my question in a new one.

I entered the US on Dec 10, 2013 on a L2 VISA. I am applying for a new EAD and have a few questions -

How to pay the filing fee ? The USCIS website states that 'Bank drafts, cashier's checks, certified checks, personal checks (See Check Instructions below), and money orders' are acceptable. If I pay the fee by a personal check, can it be from my husband's account (who has a L-1 visa) ? Or should it be form my account ?

I called the USCIS helpdesk and they said that the fee cannot be paid from a third-party account. According to them my husband's account is a third-party account.

    Thanks in advance.

Update on my EAD Application status

I did apply for EAD by the paper filing method. Sent the fee as a Cashier's Check (the bank added a $10 fee for issuing the Cashier's Check ). I received the EAD card yesterday.

The time it took for each step -

DEC 20th - Sent application by USPS First Class Mail
Dec 26th - Application received at Nebraska Service Center
Dec 29th - Got confirmation email that they have accepted the application. Received the confirmation letter by mail a few days later. Status of application in USCIS portal showed as 'Initial Review'
Jan 13th - Status changed to 'Card / Document Production'
Jan 20th - Received the EAD card by USPS Priority Mail.
