confused - l1b max stay ?

Initial l1b 2010 to 2013.
After renewal - my visa stamp says .. Visa expires 2018. While i94 validity till 2016.
Does that mean i can file for extension in may 2016 ?
If i stay till 2016 i will be already using l1 b for 6 . While i heard max out is 5 years ?
Note : i was not in US for the entire period of 3 years ( 2010 to 2013 )

Though it is true that L1B Max stay is for 5 Years , but only stay in US is accounted for. So Even if you stay till 2016 you wouldnt be using full 6 Years, as 2010-2013 you were not in US.
In 2016 you can apply extension while in US or go for fresh stamping if outside US. If extension approved or new visa approved it would typically be valid for 5 Minus time already spent in US till then.

Yes, your total stay period in US is only calculated and shouldn't exceed 5 years. Since your I94 date is less than the visa date, you can either get extended I94 when you travel India and come back or you can file I94 correction (within few months before I94 expiration).

Thank you Moresh and Raghvi for the replies. It makes more sense now and I know what i have to look out for.
