Change of status :L2 to L2

My husband and I came to the US on individual L1 visas of our respective companies. My son is on my L1's L2 visa.
My company is not doing good and I will be laid off soon which will terminate my status including my son's L2.
How can I immediately get my son to be a dependent of my husband's L1 so that it does not affect his schooling
What is the process?
Can it be done from the US?
Is this also called change of status?
