L1B Extn - 221G Administrative Processing - Ottawa, Canada

Hi Folks,



I work for reputed global IT organization in USA. My employer have presence in India, but it is not Indian base IT company. I am working with my employer for last 6 yrs, and past 1 yr in USA on L1B visa.



As my visa expired, I came to Ottawa, Canada for visa extension. I had good interview with consulate on 18th Feb, 2014. But some how consulate put me in "Administrative Processing" category. I got white letter, no pink/blue/yellow slip.


•My passport is with US embassy, so I cannot go back to India as well.
•As I am visitor visa, I cannot work in Canada. I am just helplessly stuck in unknown country.
•My family is in US, just waiting for my return or go back to India.

Now any of you know how much time US Embassy, Ottawa takes to clear admin processing? I looked different forums, but most of the cases I show were from US Embassy in India. Wait time mentioned in those forums just scares me.


Anyone faced same issue in Ottawa/Canada? if yes, how much time it took to get your passport/visa back?

Hi,

I was tensed when i got 221g recently. After being stressed out for 2-3 days i realized that only thing I can do is chill. Nothing in our hands. Searched various forums and realized I need to forget my passport for minumun 3 months. Thankfully I am in India and so am in a better situation than yours.

Check what white slip means....does it have header 221g ?.. If yes then its admin processing which takes 40 - 120 days...(in rare cases goes upto a year). You can also contact consulate/VFS office asking them to return the passport .(although not sure whats the exact process). Once they complete processsing and decide to approve visa, they will ask for the passport. This will you can atleast work in India. When it will be approved, you can return to US.

Hope this helps...keep fingers crossed and pray for Approval.
