  • Dependent visa for wife (L2), old passport lost

    Hi,

I am planning to apply for a dependent visa (L2) for my wife. I was going through the list of documents required for applying for the visa, and found that my dependent needs to submit current as well as old passport during the time of application.

The issue is that my wife seems to have misplaced her old passport (expired) and we are not able to locate it.

Will this create an issue while applying for the L2 visa? Has anyone faced a similar issue before?

    Request help and similar experiences.

    Thank you.

    Hi Rohit,

I had similar experience last year. My wife's passport was misplaced and she was having valid L2 Visa with travel planned. She applied for new passport and got new Visa. You need to do below things,

1.If your wife already had Visa, Inform US embassy about same. Although they may not respond, its your duty to report the loss.
2.Create Affadavit and report the loss as police station. You need to get certificate. Remember old passport could be misused and hence needs to be cancalled ASAP.
3.Apply for new passport(new passport number). Tatkal may not be applicable for lost passport
    4. Go thru entire process of L2 application and pay required fees for L2. Make sure this is mentioned in DS160 (respective passport page). Else they will think she's your 2nd wife .
    5. Carry FIR report, affadavit and other docs during L2 interview.

    Hope this help..

I am not an expert..just Stating the process by experience. Hopefully no one faces such pain.

    Thanks

When I applied for L1 visa, one of my old passports was missing. This was mentioned in the application form. During consulate interview, I was called separately by some Indian officers and asked about the missing passport and warned me that the consulate may reject my visa. But nothing happened and I got it issued without any question. Typically, it should not be a problem unless the missing passport had a valid US visa.
