L2 visa valid , I-94 and EAD expiring

Hi,
I am on a L2 dependant visa and working . My EAD card and I-94 is expiring on 25th April 2014.
My husbands L1 visa was extended till 2019 last month and his new I-94 is valid till 2017.
He travelled to Canada last month to get his L1 extension.
I have applied for I-94 extension by submitting the form I-539 on 12th feb .USCIS informed that it would take atleast 4 months before this process is complete.
Which means I will llose my job as my EAD wont be extended in time.
I have 2 question -
1) I plan to travel to Mexico for a day and come back. Will this extend my I-94? Is it safe?
2) If my EAD expires am I authorized to work for 180 days if I have submitted the EAD extension and its in process?

I had the same issue till this Wednesday that my I-94 got extended till 2017 but my spouse got only till 2014 may. best way is go to CBP office near to you and ask them to make correction in your I-94 validity. I am sure they will do that. for me it worked.
no need to travel outside but first try this option.
