Entering the US prior to my L1 start date

Hi there,

I'm due to start work at the start of June on an L1A. How far in advance can I enter the US before my start date? I have read 30 days in some places and 10 days elsewhere.

I want to go out 30 days in advance for a number of reasons. My wife is actually American, and I will be helping her move from Mich to NY. We also have to find an apartment, settle in and we plan to visit her father in Florida before I start work.

If I can only enter 10 days in advance, it is possible to travel out on an ESTA prior to this, leave the US and then return using my L1A? Could I just cross the Canadian border for a couple of days and re-enter? Please let me know about any potential risks or issues.

I believe one can enter Max 10 days before the visa start date. Also, one can start getting paid only from the start date not before that.
