L1 Visa (Canadian) job change?

I am hiring someone for a client of mine (to hire directly with my client) who is headquartered out of London with an office here in Houston, TX. I have an applicant that is a Canadian citizen working in the US on an L1 visa and we are looking to make this guy an offer of employment. Very specialized role where he meets the specific requirements and was wondering is it possible to move forward with hiring this guy given his visa status? What steps would need to take place as we would like to make an offer of employment ASAP, and where could I find this info?
