L2 EAD Renewal Processing

My spouse L2 EAD is expiring on 1st July 2014. She has applied for EAD renewal through paper based I-765, 2 weeks back but not received receipt number yet. I could track that the documents were delivered to USCIS. I have below queries to be answered:

1. How long does it take to generate receipt number by USCIS?
2. How long does it take to get EAD after recepit number generation?
3. If she gets approved EAD after 1st July, say 15th Aug, can she work for the gap period, i.e. 45 days?

Hi Sanjay,

1. It can take a couple of weeks sometimes to get the EAD receipt. Sometimes 2-4 weeks. If you haven't received after 4 weeks, you should submit a e-request to USCIS
2. According to the USCIS website, it takes about 3 months for an EAD application to be processed
3. No, she shouldn't work on an expired EAD even if she has an EAD application pending. USCIS is usually good at approving cases before the expiration date though.

Help needed for L2 EAD Renewal

Hi all,
My L2 EAD is going to expire on May 2016.
I came to know that we can apply only 120 days in advance before expiry.

Can anyone please guide me on the process, complete checklist of documents required for L2 EAD Renewal/extension and also whether can we file it on our own or can we get it filed through an attorney ?

Please advice. Any help is much appreciated.
