L1A visa questions.

Hi all,

Thanks for a great forum guys.

I am in the process of sorting a move for me and my family to Florida.

I have a few questions and would be very grateful if you guys could help.

I (along with my wife) own 2 companies in the UK. We have employees here. The businesses will continue to run when we leave.

I would like to setup a US branch of one of our businesses that would be owned by the UK company.

We currently employ my brother in law as installation manager and my mother in law as administration/office/credit control manager. I would like to move them and there families to the states to run the operation with me and my family.

In my understanding, the L1A visa would suit myself, my brother in law (plus wife) and my mother in law (and her husband, my father in law). Does this all make sense and do you agree?

As I said, the companies would continue to be run in the UK in our absence.

The one thing I cannot find an answer to anywhere is this;

My Grandmother in law is 89, and is cared for by my mother and father in law. They have UK power of attorney for her etc and she is in I'll health.

How would she be able to go? They obviously cannot leave her behind, and I cannot find a clear answer anywhere.

Please feel free to scrutinise or comment on what I have said!

There are L-1A and L-1B. L-1A is for executive or manager, and L1B is for intracompany transferee specialized knowledge. For you, you can prove yourself as executive. But for installation manager and administration/office/credit control manager, it is not that easy to prove them to be executive. But you can try L-1B.
