  • Passport validity is less than visa validity

I have got my L1A individual stamped for next three years and is valid till Feb 2017. But my passport is valid till July 2015 only.

If I apply for re-issue of my passport, how the visa will be carry forwarded to new passport?
As number of both the passports will be different, will it cause any issue?

Visa will expire as per its own expiry date. Its not dependent upon passport expiry and need not be ported from expired passport to new passport. Once you get a new passport, you will have to travel with both old and new passport with you.

This is my opinion not legal advice.

Thanks Raghvi for your response. Can you confirm one more point please. I may travel soon due to which I might not be able to get my passport renewed. Is it possible to get it done in US?

Yes, you can get the passport renewed through Indian Consulate in US. Please approach the respective consulate office as per your location.

Can you please confirm that once I land in US, will my passport be stamped with the last expected date till when we can stay there? Secondly, wil it be my visa end date or passport expiry date?

It most probably would be the passport expiry date, and after renewing your passport, you would subsequently have to file for an extension whilst in US.
