L1 Renewal prior to visa expiry

My L1B visa expires Jule 2015.
Is there a time duration no earlier than the visa expiration, should I be attending for visa renewal
I may be in India during Nov-Dec timefram of this year which is about 8 months prior to my visa expiration.
Could I attend for visa (renewal) while I am in India ? Or should it have to be no earlier than 6 months as I have heard some where (not sure if it is the rule)
Please provide any information you have have in this regard
