L1 B to F1 Conversion

Hi,

My L1-B visa has expired in August. I am currently on I-94 and maxing out in January. I am planning to pursue masters starting in January. Can I apply COS from L1B to F1 on I 94 ? If Yes, How soon should I start the COS Process ?

You should file before I-94 expiry. Also do remember moving to F1 would not reset the clock.

You can use form I539 to do the same. But do understand that you need to meet criteria for an F1 and provide supporting evidences for the same.

Thanks Raghvi for the response. I am maxing out on Jan 15th 2015. If I file my I 539 by Dec 31 (for ex.) which may take 2-3 months for approval, can I stay in US and attend college, though I am out of status from Jan 15 to Decision date ?
