L2 Visa Expiry & Passport Reissue

Hi, we recently moved to the US from India in L1, L2 (for my wife, son) visa. The immigration officer at the airport entered a date above the Visa Stamp in my son passport which is the date of his passport expiry. His passport is expiring in 2 years but my visa is valid for 3 years. I have some questions:

1. Can I apply for renewal or reissue of his passport from the US?
2. My son passport was issued for 5 yrs initially as he is a minor. So when I apply for reissue of his passport within 1 yr of his passport expiry - is he going to get a new passport book with a new passport number?
3. If he get s a new passport - how do I get the US Visa (L2) on his passport transferred to the new passport?

1. Yes.
2. Yes he will get a new passport.
3. You don't need to transfer the visa to the new passport, the visa will remain valid till its validity date. You just have to carry both old and new passport while traveling. Make sure you do get the old passport back from the Indian Consulate.
