  • L1A Individual approved in Chennai

I would like to thank this forum for all the wonderful experiences shared by all the people here..I had my interview on February 13th 2015 at the Chennai consulate. I had prepared well for the interview even though I had an approved petition from the USCIS and went through many of the questions posted here.. I landed at the consulate exactly 15 minutes before the interview time as advised. Here is how my interview went

    Myself - Good morning
    VO - Good morning

VO - Which company are going to work for in the US?
    Myself - answered

VO - Can I see a copy of your I-797?
    Myself - shown

VO - your visa is approved
Myself - thank you, have a nice day

Now, I went at a time when there were holidays continously, Saturday and Sunday being weekly holidays and Monday being a holiday on account of Presidents day. I have not yet got my passport and when I checked with the call center, it says my my "passport is still with post". It is a little frustrating because after such a smooth experience during the interview, am unable to get my passport in hand.

Can I anybody tell me if there is anything I need to be worried about?

Congratulations for visa. Request for help from you.

My company has initiated my l1a individual visa. We are bit confused abot no. Of reportees at onsite location. Could share your thought. I have total 9 reportees out of these 3 will be with me at onsite and 6 will be there at offshore.

Your help on this is highly appreciated.

        Thanks.

Number of reportees at offshore is insignificant. If you do not have proper hierarchy defined at US work location, L1A might not be the right category to apply for.

And just having reportees wont make you eligible for L1A, there are a plethora of other aspects that can be taken into consideration for approving an L1A visa.

L1A is for Managerial/Senior Executive level positions. As a project manager, you need not have even a single person reporting to you directly. What matters more is the nature of the work that you will be performing - supervisory and managerial duties are very different. You can be a Project Manager even in a standalone case - this visa is for Project Manager, not People Manager.

If you do not have more than three individuals reporting to you in US, am not sure how you were asked to show at least 4 - you really cant falsify data. And if you have reportees, their designation and job responsibilities are important for your candidature as a manager.

A project has different phases from Initiation to Closure, and in initial phases resource requirement is always slim. So you can always justify 3 reportees that way, and can say that you plan to expand the team once full scale work starts of during porject execution. That way you also satisfy a basic criteria for this visa type - ability to hire and fire resources based on project needs.

I am having 2 years as project manger and total exp is about 13 years. so I want to know that how should I represent my case during interview about roles/responsibilty. Should I say that I am project manger or programme manger something else.

Please provide your valuable guidance on this.

                  Thanks in advance.

Projecting yourself as a Program Manager, with multiple projects under you would be an ideal way of representing yourself.
