Hello all,
Thanks to all of you on this forum. I'm new here but I've learned a lot about the immigration process from your experience.
A little about me…
- My husband has secured an L-1A visa (well almost, we still have Embassy interview next week but the petition has been approved).
- I have my L-2A visa interview on the same morning as his L-1A.
- He will be leaving mid April and relocating to San Francisco permanently.
- I will hopefully be leaving with him on the same day so we can enter the US together, but only staying for one week.
- The day I arrive I will be making a paper application for my EAD via the i-765 form.
Here is my question / issue:
I'm still employed in the UK in a very demanding job and due to financial commitments I am unable to take 3 months off and relax in San Fran while my EAD is processed. I'd love to, but it's just not financially possible. My hope was to enter the US with my husband, file for my EAD and leave after one week to return to the UK where I can continue to work for another 2-3 months with my current employer. Then closer to the EAD approval date (after 80 days or so) I can relocate permanently to the US and begin my job hunt and new life.
The fault with that plan is Biometrics. It appears most people are called for Biometrics around 2-3 weeks after filing when I'll be back in the UK. I REALLY would not like to have to fork out £1,000 on a last minute flight from the UK for 2-4 days and cause havoc at work to have my biometrics taken. Does anyone have any suggestions?
- Can I request for biometrics to be taken OUTSIDE of the US? Say, the US Embassy in London?
OR
- Can I file for my EAD and then just show up at my local biometrics centre a couple of days later with my L-2A visa and explain I've just filed my i-765 but need to get back to the UK for employment/financial reasons (showing them my air ticket). I was thinking this might work - if I show up at 8am and just sit there all day until they can squeeze me in.
I'm sure other couples have gone through this scenario before and any advice you all can share would be excellent.
Once I arrive in the US I plan on helping others by posting the details of my EAD application and timeline.
Thank you all,
SFBOUND
