L-1 visa for contract employee

Friends,

I am an Indian and work in Japan on contract with a Japanese company. This company has approved L-1 blanket petition. They want to to go to USA for about 6-8 months for work (Inspection and testing). Can they send me on L-1 even if I am a contract employee.

Is there any difference in terms of documents to be submitted to obtain L-1 visa being a contract employee.
