  • Can L2 remote work for company outside of US?

    HI, there
I hold L1-A and my wife hold L2. She is working for my birth country based company, and now she come to US along with me.
And the company still wants she to work remotely from US and they will continue to pay her in my birth country.
    questions, thanks.

    1) Does she still need an EAD to work remotely for the company out side of US?
    2) If yes for 1), as far as I know in case she works for an US based company, then she have to use EAD and then she will lost her L2 status. But this company will not care about her EAD, so should my wife will tell US government: hey, I'm working now, please change my status from L2 to xxx?
    3) We may apply for Green Gard later, so are there any impact for that? for example she used EAD before GC application and then she will lost L2 status?
    4) Somebody may say: hey , how does US know she is working for a company out side of US, forget EAD! But I think as a tax resident, we need to report all incoming overseas(which should include her incoming in my birth country), so the federal will know this.

    Thanks a lot!

To answer your queries in brief, your wife will need an EAD even if she is getting paid in a different currency / country.
Having an EAD on L2 entitles her to work, it DOES NOT nullify her L2, her L2 remains very much valid.
It should not have any adverse impact if you want to file GC later on.

thanks. I heard for some case for example you are under Adjust Of Status for GC, and you used EAD then you will lost your original status(H, L, etc).
