Can the prospective L2 go on a LOA (Loss of Absence) to visit his spouse wit L1 in US

Situation:

My wife (Valid L1 Holder) is in US with my baby, can I apply for a L2 by taking a LOA (Leave of Absence) from my current company? or should I resign before applying for L2 and show the resignation letter to the Visa Officer at the consulate during the visa interview? or showing a LOA document is sufficient?

And suppose I go on LOA with L2 can I immediately apply for a EAD? or would EAD ask for resignation letter from my current company?
