Teaching Assistantship on L2 visa

I have a question in relation to my L2 visa. I am starting graduate school next month and have been offered a quarter time teaching assistantship as part of my PhD position. Problem is my EAD has not processed yet and I am hearing conflicting advice as to whether I need the EAD or not. Can anyone help me out?

I am terrified that if it is not processed on time that I will lose my place at the University. The university gave no indication that I should have EAD or anything like that so I really do not know where to go from here.

Any help would be much appreciated.
