If an employee of a Canadian company (subsidiary of the american company) is sent to the US on a L1 visa, does the U.S company need to pay the employee or can the subsidiary continue to pay the employee on the Canadian payroll? If the latter, is the US income tabulated and filed when the employee prepares their taxes?

    Thanks

    Sherry

If you are going to be paid in Canada, how are you going to manage your day to day expenses in US? Normally companies either pay salary or perdiem to their L1 employees. But I dont think there are clear guidelines on the salary for L1 employees. Also, even if you get paid in Canada, you still would need to pay taxes in US, consult a tax expert.

This is my opinion not legal advice.
