L2 EAD - Can my wife earn income from home?

Hi,

During the EAD application process, is my wife allowed to conduct work in US under employment terms of her UK employer? She would not be a full time employee of the UK company, but rather free-lancing for the UK employer for client's in the US. She would be paid in sterling directly into a UK bank account?

Is the above possible?

Can she fly back to work in the UK for a period of time, or would that simply invalidate the L2?
