  • L2 for spouse and child

Hello everyone, long time lurker over here. Couple of questions -

I just had a L-1B visa approved. My spouse and 6months old child were not listed as dependents in the petition so now I have to fill a L-2 visa for them:

1)*Do I need an Immigration Lawyer or can I do it myself?
2)*How much would it cost to have an Immigration Lawyer to do it?
3)*Can they enter the USA with a (Non-inmigrant) B1/B2 Visa and then change status once the L2 visa is approved? (of course, taking into consideration the I-94 dates)
3.1)*If not, how much time until they can join me in the USA?

    Thanks!

    1. Its a pretty straightforward process, dont think you need an attorney/agent to do so.
    2. I think it is $190 Per Visa request. http://chennai.usconsulate.gov/consular-fees.html. So $380 in your case.
    3. I would not suggest you do that.
3.1 If you already have a L1 visa stamped, you can fill DS-160, one for your spouse, and one for your kid, pay the fees, schedule the interview and have them attend the visa interview, if approved they should get visa within 2 weeks and then they can travel. They need to carry supporting documents for visa interview. https://www.immihelp.com/l2-visa-stamping-documents/

This is my opinion not legal advice.

      Raghavi, Question for you.

I too have the same situation (L1 approved) & I want my spouse & kid to accompany me immediately on their B2 for sometime & then they'll come back. They had B2 since long & have visited with me earlier on B2 visa (that time I too was on B1).

What could be the problem, to convert there B2 to L2 there in USA. I wanna go this route because there is a huge possibility they may not want to stay there with me - because of some personal reason.
