Visa stamping from Canada - Automatic revalidation

I am in the US with an expired visa. Visa expired in Oct 2012 and I am in the US with approved I797 form. I have valid I797 until Oct 2016. I wanted to know if I can travel to Canada to file a fresh extension which will be valid for another 2 years i.e. Oct 2018 and a fresh visa stamp in my passport.

For any reasons if my interview does not go as planned and I get denied a visa, can I use my existing I797 that has valid I-94 until Oct 2016 to come back to US? Does Automatic revalidation help here?

I think not if you travel for less then 30 days then this automatic visa validation apply to you.
