  • L1B to L2: Going to Canada/UK to get stamp quicker

I am looking to change status from my current L1B to an L2. The main reason is I would like to move employers as quickly as possible.

    Key details:
    - My wife has an L1B here in the US
    - I have already applied (80 days ago) for the i-539 change of status to L2 within the US but I checked with the USCIS and they said it could be another 6 months to process!
    - My lawyer said it is possible to go to a Canadian US consulate (Montreal, Toronto, etc.) and get the L2 stamp quickly
    - I am interviewing currently so wanting to move fast

    Questions
    - Has anyone done this process?
    - How long after the appointment in Canada does it take to get your passport back? Can this be done same day?
    - Do I need my spouse at the appointment?
    - Any other risks?

    Best,
    Rory

    - Generally 2 to 3 days.
    - Do I need my spouse at the appointment?
    - No, you just need her documents (photocopy of passport, I797 & I129)
    - Any other risks?
    - Nothing seen as per your description
