Can L2 visa holder apply for EAD while SSN application is in progress?

Hi,

I am currently in L2 status, and I've submitted application for SSN a couple of days ago.
Since I will leave US in another week or so, I'd like to apply for EAD during my stay this time.
My questions are:

1. Can I submit my application for EAD before my social security card is received?
2. If yes, what answer should I put for the question 9 in form i-765: "Social Security Number (Include all numbers you have ever used, if any)"?

Yes, you can submit for EAD without SSN. You can leave SSN field blank, if that option is available.
