L1 B VISA Extension Plysical precense in US

Hi,

I am travelling in L1 B VISA for the first time.

I am landing US on August 3, 2016.

My I-129 VISA expires on 9 Jan, 2017. My Passport VISA expires in 2019.

Am I eligible to file the extension of 2 years after I land in US on August 3.

The reason I got this doubt is, I will have only 5 months completion from August 3, 2016 to Jan 9, 2017 (no six months completion)
Somebody told that I need to be there in US before 6 months of I-129 expiration for visa extension eligibility. IS there any rule like this?

No rule as such for extension purposes.
