  • L1-A Extension Confusion

    Hi Seniors,

I hold an individual L1-A petition valid till Dec-17. My Visa expires in April-17 & so does the i94.

    Questions -

    1. What date can I legally work/stay in the US.
    2. While being in US, can I somehow extend the visa till my valid petition od Dec-17.
    3. I've heard that at the airport they have a helpdesk where I can go and by showing my valid petition they will extend I-94 till petition date & then I can stay until my I-94 date is valid, but cannot enter US without a valid Visa stamp(which still would say April-17).

    4. If I go for renewal, how long does it takes & approximate cost involved. My company says that they will not bear 100% of the renewal cost. Any rough idea on the cost involved and legally can i share that cost.
    5. Any good attorney referral for L1-A cases.
    6. If I have to share the cost, then going for GC is a better option..???

Thanks in advance for your response.

    1. April 17.
    2. A visa can only be granted outside US.
    3. You can try, they may or may not extend the I-94, they cannot extend visa.
    4. 3-6 K USD typically and takes upto 3-6 Months. If done in premium 2-4 Weeks(additional 1220 USD cost), you can only pay the premium cost.
    5. GC is an entirely different process. Which category of EB visa is your employer filing for you?

This is my opinion not legal advice.
