Can L2 visa be revoked by L1 visa holder?

Hi,

I am on L2 and my visa is valid till 2021. My I-94 is valid till January 2018. Due to some personal issues between my spouse and I, I am planning to live separately. I also have a kid who is on L2 as well.
I wanted to check if there is a possibility that my spouse can revoke my L2 and I will end up in some legal trouble or I can stay in US as long as my spouse is here and my visa is valid?

Meanwhile, I am planning to apply for H1 b visa so that I can be on independent visa. But that process will take around a year to complete. What are my best options here?

L1 unilaterally cannot request for L2 cancellation. As long as L1 maintains valid status L2 is allowed to stay in US. The first challenge that you may face is if at all your H1 is filed as COS they may ask for L1 valid paystubs which might be difficult to get.

Now, if I am working in US, wouldn't my paystubs be alone sufficient?

Your L2 status is determined by your spouse maintaining valid L1. Your paystubs on L2 EAD do not prove your valid L2 status.
