Staying in USA on I94 after L1B expires.

Hello Experts,

My L1B is going to expire on 30-Jun-2017 but the I94 is valid till 30-Sep-2017. Passport is valid till 2022.

Another employer is planning to sponsor my H1B. If the H1B is approved, can I stay in the USA till from 01-Jul-2017 to 30-Sep-2017 only on the basis of a valid I-94?

Contrary to popular belief, I believe one needs a valid I797/I129s to work in US. I 94 provides validity of stay , not validity of work.
