L1-B visa renewal help - Weird situation

Hi guys,

I am currently working in New York under the L1-B visa.
My I-94 expires Dec-2018
My Visa in my passport expires Dec-2018
My I-129 expires 08-Dec-2016

My work is applying for extension of my visa (I-129) on Monday (28th of November).

Question:
1) I am travelling back to Sydney on 23rd of December (after my I-129 expiry). My lawyer told me that I should be fine as my I-94 and visa are still valid and I will have a receipt of the renewal of my I-129 pending. Does this sound okay?

I am just concerned that I may not be allowed in while the decision on renewal is pending.

Sounds good to me. In my case , my I-94 was expired as well and i was told to wait until the new petition is approved before entering US.
