How long is L2 EAD good for?

I've seen conflicting information. If you have a 3 year L2, will you always get a 2 year EAD? Or do you sometimes just get 1 year?

It also depends upon the PED (Petition expiry date) of your primary L1. In my case my VISA expires in 2018, but PED is 07/2017. I applied for my wife's EAD and it came on 06/2016 and has an expiry of 07/2017.

I had 3 years of L2. First EAD i got for 2 years and 2nd one for remaining months of my visa. I have heard its allotted maximum for 2 years only .
