Travel outside of US while L1 A visa extension is in progress

Hi All,

My current L1A visa expires by 4 May 2017. I need to travel outside of US and return back on 27th April 2017 just 1 week before my stamped visa expiry.

Meanwhile my employer is filing my L1A visa extension petition. I tried to get Premium processing done before I leave but they are not ready to do so.

My questions are,
1. Can I travel outside of US while extension is filed?
2. How about getting back into US just 1 week before visa expiry?

I would not advise leaving while your extension is filed.

Can you get a renewal via consulate ?

Hi, is there a specific reason why your employer are applying for renewal from US vs. the US consulate abroad? I have been asked to go to the US consulate abroad. The lawyers says that I can get into the US again on my existing visa if my extension is denied, let me know if you had similar discussions with your company/lawyers.
