How to obtain SSN for kids?

Hi,

My wife is on L1A and I am on L2 together with kids. I wanted to apply for social security number for kids but EAD card is required for them.
They are 5 years old and I read (https://www.immihelp.com/l2-visa/) that "dependent children on L2 visa are NOT eligible for EAD".

Do you know how can I get SSN for kids or howto obtain EAD for them?

You can't. L2 children are not authorized to work and thus cannot get SSNs. They don't need SSNs as those are only needed for work.

The kids are entitled to a SSN if they have a tax filing requirement ie they incur income effectively connected with the United States

They can get an ITIN , by filing form W7, for tax filing purposes. You would need to send their passports to the IRS office. Or do a walk-in to IRS office for physical verification.

Even if you try, they will not issue an SSN for your children. When you complete the first year of residency in US, as part of tax forms, you can get an ITIN number for your children. Only after the year you were physically in US for more than 180 days.

Children on L2 cannot have EAD.
